Don't know why, but they use the name Nikko (Netti) here. Maybe because it sounds more "Finnish".

On the BB Slovenia page, they also call him "Finnish / scandinavian stallion".

I remember when Johan went to BB Africa for a swap, they drove him through the ghettos of Joburg etc. No blindfold whatsoever. Don't remember if they even claimed he would be blindfolded. But this whole blindfold story is probably just because the format is all about isolation from the outside world. To not break the illusion.

When Cameron went to BB Africa from BBUK in 2003, they showed him blindfolded on cars, the plane, everywhere, but that too could've been just a few shots to make it look more dramatic.

bbslo kirjoitti:Yes, this is his first Slovenian fan.

Who is the red haired guy?
The red-haired guy is Sami Aaltonen, the scriptwriter and one of the directors for the Finnish edition of Big Brother. Not the head honcho of the show (that would be the producer Mikko Räisänen) but second-in-command down from him.

Finnish viewers remember him best from various kids and teens shows which he was involved with before getting his current post as a part of the Big Brother Finland "core team". (Which makes some viewers wonder how much of that childish "kids TV" baggage he brought with him into scriptwriting the show.) He's also one of the Big Brother voices the housemates hear in the house - the worst one. His voice is not particularly "manly" - it has more like this nasal tone when he tries to sound "deep" - and he gets constant ridicule for that from the fans of the show... even sometimes from the housemates themselves.

BB fans don't particularly like Aaltonen, or the production team in general. The Finnish production seems to have some kind of a track record in blowing many great ideas which have been successfully implemented in the foreign editions of Big Brother, making them suck instead of being great. The production team also does not seem to be capable of reacting to the live events happening in the house dynamically enough, or utilizing the ideas they have devised for tasks, etc. to the fullest. It has been a kind of a half-baked show the last few years - but especially this year.

Often, they seem to have a semi-decent idea which could work well... but the implementation is crap; they're just not doing it right or with enough dedication. A number of times they have also had some scripted twist which has bombed for some unexpected reason - and because they were originally so sure it would work, they don't have any sufficient "plan B" but will usually just call off the whole thing (despite the initial setup) and carry on like nothing had happened, hoping that the viewers would forget about it as well.

Fans would very much like to see this "core team" replaced with other people altogether (the couple of first seasons actually were made by different people and the difference is clear) but it's probably not going to easily happen.

One of the silly things about the current format of BB Finland is that it is so product-placement driven. The production company even has a website where you can book visibility for your product in the Big Brother House in a calendar view in the form of week or day tasks where the product is being applied in some way. This limits creativity in scriptwriting (not to say it wouldn't have been limited by the choice of the scriptwriter alone.)

(Putting my conspiracy theorist hat on, the design of this year's house might also reflect this commercialism, since in an otherwise visually dull house the featured products pop out of their background better...)

Whenever someone goes on exchange it always seems to be Aaltonen who gets the trip to another country with him/her.

Here in Slovenia, the funny thing is that BB voice is sometimes - a (young) woman. And there is product placement, but not many of them (the URL of the companies that sell sauna's and jacuzzi's is visible). And they must buy all weekly supplies via webshop of the biggest Slovenian merchandise chain, and only products that have their own branding.

But during the live show on Sunday, we have a lot of advertisements and our announcer Nina Osenar is known for her intro to advertisements: "And now let's see some shopping suggestions." This sentence became some kind of her trademark.

We have also a woman BB sometimes. Susa Salminen, the director, belongs to the "core production team".

Our this year's BB is practically a daily tv-shop show with distant similarities to a show that once was called Big Brother. Only my slightly exaggarated view though ;)

Our housemates also do their shopping via a webshop. The end credits of each show display dozens and dozens of manufacturers, brand names and sponsors. There are advertisements on the house walls, for heck's sake!

edit: and with all this in-show constant advertising there are naturally about 12 minutes of commercial breaks during each one hour show. I sometimes get the urge to become Tyler Durden when watching BB :P

We have a female voice (or female voices?) as "Big Brothers" too, but they're usually only heard in the diary room. The main "Big Brother" voice in Finland belongs to Jari Karjalainen, a singer and a voice talent who does voice-overs for commercials etc. He is responsible for all pre-recorded Big Brother announcements heard in the house. You can see and hear him in this TV ad spot for the 2010 season where he sits in the back of a taxi.

(The concept for the ad: The taxi driver has just mistakenly brought Mr. Karjalainen to the place where the old Big Brother house once resided and is baffled how it isn't there any more. He also wants Mr. Karjalainen to prove he's really "that guy" by making him utter a standard Big Brother diary room announcement in the "Big Brother voice", using his name in it. The ad tried to highlight the fact this season had a new location and a new house built from ground up.)

Those details sound eerily similar to our show too...

To call Finland a part of Scandinavia is pretty much same as saying that Italy is a Balkan nation - geographically it's just wrong. Even though Niko is dancing in a Finnish group called "Scandinavian Hunks" Finnish schools are supposed to be so good, but still a lot of Finns think that we are a Scandinavian nation... I think that's because many people here want to be associated with the West (meaning Scandinavia) and not the East (meaning Russia)... That's because of our history, but I don't even go there as it would take a long, long explanation to tell why.

Just had to say this, because it always sounds so silly when people refer Finns as Scandinavians :) But definetly nothing personal, just saying this generally to all.

"Scandinavian" is, in general usage, a synonym to "Nordic" in most parts of the world. I believe most people in the Nordic countries know the difference. There is actually nothing silly about foreigners calling Finns (or Danes or Icelanders) Scandinavian. It's about semantics.

Yes, that's true, but it still don't make it right. Finland is not a part of Scandinavia. That is a cold fact and I'm sure you know that, too. If foreign people make a mistake thinking Finland as a Scandinavian nation, it's understandable, but for a Finn that's a pretty silly mistake.

And it's not only about semantic, it's about geography. Finland is not located in a Scandinavian peninsula. Just like Italy isn't in the Balkan peninsula.

If someone is interested of these matters, here's something to start with:

Santra kirjoitti:I think that Niko is the only possible choice for the housemate swap at this moment. He is a very nice person and it is easy to live with him in the BB House. Many people in Finland don´t like him because he has a second chance to be in the BB House ( he was third in 2007).

Slovenia BB is a celebrity BB this year and Niko is the only celebrity in the Finland house. Well, not a very big celebrity, but known as a dancer in the dancing group Scandinavian Hunks. But it is very nice to have Sandra here and hope Niko is doing well there in Slovenia!
Hi! so you are lucky! None of our HM in SLO is really a celebrity... i have only heard of Igor (Gipsy music king, allthough he isn´t a Gipsy), Činč (an Over Mura Moving Cake with great sense of humor, but getting old and tired..., and of course (not celebrity) urša čepin: the girl, who became known as the Kalamari kisser: Every time, she kisses a boiling oil, you got a fresh fried Kalamari ring,,,)

Devilish kirjoitti:And as far as i have read...your people have a lot of parties huh?
Depends a bit on the week, but pretty regularly, yes - and sometimes even two or three nights in a row. The current/remaining housemates of the BBF house are not that much of party animals though. (OK, they drink and party away, but don't do anything too special. Except throw up in all the wrong places...) There have been some much more lively cases in the past among the housemates to the earlier seasons of BBF.

We don't have any true "alpha males" in the house at the moment... so there are no flirting/romantic opportunities for Sandra, I guess. There were a couple of semi-decent guys early in the season but they have both been removed from the house by now... and neither of them did have a particularly outgoing or instantly charming personality, either.

If Marika will remain in the house - she's up for eviction tonight so she might stay or might go during the talk show - she'll surely try to kiss Sandra on the mouth later on in the jacuzzi, though... once she gets enough alcohol in her system... ;)

I don't know too much about your housemates but if their profiles are any indication of their true personality I think Niko would like to hang out with Maki... and possibly with Gena as well. But he's a pretty laid-back fella and will usually get along with everybody. As Niko is living in a relationship (and is apparently very much in love with his girlfriend) it is unlikely he would be interested in the women of your house in any romantic sense.

And as we can see he's leaving the house tonight.

Maki is perhaps best option.

yes, it sounds like a stupid act from our BB. letting him choose between a party on his last day and resting alone in the secret room. who would have chosen being alone? :(
