Big Brother: Thinking is allowed here!

This week, preparations have been made in the Big Brother house to create a false but believable image of Finland.

Niko N is leaving you for exchange, but there are now three new housemates in the Big Brother house. It is therefore time to adjust your performances to fit the new situation. Also the opinions of your new housemates should count when you're trying to decide what would be a false but believable, and at the same time entertaining image for Finland. You should assess whether your current presentations are plentiful and long enough to cover the time of the entire exchange week; act according to your conclusions.

All housemates need to be able to perform their roles in the presentations in English. Help each other and find a good team spirit. During the planning stage you are allowed to write and draw. The required supplies will be delivered for you in the storage room.

Your weekly budget may be doubled if you succeed in the task. The entire nation expects entertainingly false but believable performances for representing the country.

Is English your working language or otherwise in daily use? I mean, your English is surprisingly good, even for a Finn, as most of us (the younger generations) are at least fluent in written conversation if not speaking.

This opinion is based on some of the nouns and adjectives you use in translating the events transpiring in the house. If only the housemates were as fluent as you ...

Thanks for the compliment. I use English a lot in my daily life... but no, not as a true "working language". More for chatting with my "international" friends etc. And for surfing the 'net and reading various kinds of material published in English, of course.

(As with any language - but especially a second language - I tend to get sloppier and use clumsier expressions and words and possibly even slip in embarrassing grammatical mistakes when I'm tired. So the quality of these posts may be highly variable! )

Someone compiled a brief rundown of Marika's "party moves" from yesterday, so I thought I'd post a translation of that list in here:

- at about 8pm, Marika wants to kiss and hug everyone.
- Marika is drunk and crying.
- Marika wants to give some more sloppy, wet kisses to everyone in her path.
- Marika is even more drunk.
- Marika suddenly shrieks straight in Nino's ear.
- Marika is called to the Diary Room.
- Marika didn't go to the Diary Room after all - disobeying Vilhelmiina who was trying to make sure she does.
- Marika didn't want to come out of the Diary Room.
- Marika is in the Diary Room babbling and shrieking furiously and incoherently at Big Brother and doesn't want to come out.
- Nino goes to get Marika out of the Diary Room. This is apparently not an easy task and takes some time.
- Marika is loud and dramatic when she finally emerges from the Diary Room.
- Marika is miffed at not having been allowed to drink as much as she would have wanted.
- Nino tries to calm Marika down. She cries some more.
- Big Brother orders Marika to go to bed. Marika doesn't want to obey. This happens a number of times.
- Vilhelmiina, Niko and Nino, Noora etc. are helping the restless Marika to stay in her bed and trying to convince her to get some sleep.
- Marika does not want to sleep, she babbles on and cries incoherently in the bed. (She's now in a very confused state.)
- Marika rebels and dashes outside to the yard, removes the covers over the jacuzzi, and jumps in the water with her pajamas on. The other housemates fish her out.
- Marika visits the Diary Room again, soaking wet. While she's waiting to get in there she keeps repeating how cold she feels and Nino helps her put a coat on and wraps a blanket around her.
- Marika stays in the diary room for a long time.
- In the meanwhile, the rest of the housemates develop a loud, fierce argument over whether they have bullied Marika in the house (or not) and whether this is an acceptable stress reaction to her always being nominated (or not.)
- Marika comes out of the Diary Room.
- Marika goes to the bedroom... but visits the bathroom first, to brush her teeth and pee... and then tries to drink some cider in there at the same time. Big Brother announces she's breaking the rules.
- at about 1am, Marika is finally sleeping next to Petri in the bedroom.

19:46 Marika is currently in the yard of the BB house, crouching over the sand beds. She's still wearing the tall, pointy donkey hat - a punishment for her disobedient behavior in the last night's party. She has now been assigned with the additional task of raking the sand beds nice and tidy with regular-sized hair comb.

Niko's farewell party are just in progress. They have a erotica / porn theme. It's much calmer than yesterday. Marika isn't allowed to drink alcohol or go to the sauna or jacuzzi. She still must wear the donky hat.

Seems like they've learned something from yesterday ... I mean nearly unlimited (compared to previous occasions) amount of beer and no one's crawling around yelling and bawling. Or generally making asses o themselves. At least by what I've gathered from other threads here.

BTW, it might have slipped my notice if anyone has commented on it on the threads, but does Marika still have the hat on? Or was she given permission to discard it at some point tonight? I haven't got 24/7 so I am dependent on the posts in that thread for info. And by this hour of the day, it is more than likely something has escaped my attention while browsing.

I saw her brushing her teeth without the hat some time ago, and she just came out of the bathroom and went to bed. But she has been wearing it the whole evening so I guess she only took it off some time before going to brush her teeth.

As for Niko, he's been asleep a long time already. Elli-Maija, Jani and Eetu - the last housemates still standing - just put the covers on top of the jacuzzi and went to the bathroom, preparing to go to bed.

Niko N has left for Slovenia... although he doesn't yet know he's going there. The remaining housemates have received Spanish music and ingredients for making paella.

17:15 The housemates are slicing and dicing fruit and vegetables in the kitchen area. Big Brother has told them they will soon get an outdoor paella gas cooker in the yard.

Earlier today, Finnish housemates have been speculating they will probably get a Brazilian housemate in exchange for Niko. (They believe Niko might have gone on exchange in the Brazilian edition of Big Brother.) Nino and Jani (both gays) have expressed their hopes the new housemate would be a hot latino man... and gay.

The housemates have also been lamenting they're too ashamed to receive anyone new in the house as they have gained some weight while living in there. Someone suggested they would tell the exchange housemate that all people in Finland are fat like them, as Big Brother has ordered them to lie about Finland and Finnish culture, anyway.

Nino has his doubts about Petri's knowledge of etiquette and manners. He has deemed it necessary to remind him to flush the toilet after every use if they're going to get a foreign guest.

17:55 Nino and Vilhelmiina are cooking stuff on the paella pan now. The other housemates help them and carry ingredients from inside the house to the cooking place in the yard.

20:00 The housemates have had their paella meal and discussed various rather mundane things (dental care, studies). They have gathered to the living-room sofas and are discussing freely.

20:28 The housemates are practicing their little play which they are going to present to the exchange housemate. The play supposedly represents the main events on the time line of Finnish history, but is in actuality entirely fabricated by the housemates themselves, as per their weekly task.

21:18 The housemates are now sitting at the dining table and discussing while having some snacks and doing various preparations. The house PA system plays Spanish guitar music for them. They speculate the exchange student might be Spanish... but then conclude it is likely Big Brother is just trying to fool them. The girls hope it would be a guy but don't really expect it will.

23:20 Housemates are lying in the bedroom. This Saturday has been uneventful and boring. The housemates are feeling really tired, have already turned their mental focus on tomorrow night (the eviction and the arrival of the exchange housemate which they expect to happen during the eviction show) and would just want to get some sleep now. They're waiting for Big Brother to turn off the lights.

23:23 Lights out in the bedroom.

The housemates wake up to a new morning. Normal morning routines follow.



Jani T is still lying in bed and his eyes are closed... so he gets an announcement about breaking the rules of the BB house.

Later on, he moves to one of the sofas in the living room and gets another announcement about not properly wearing his microphone.

10:31 Elisabet, who is a huge Michael Jackson fan and even has a picture of MJ's face tattooed on her back, is in the bathroom with a group of other housemates, worrying about the coming exchange housemate. Maybe he or she doesn't even know who Michael Jackson is, and will think Elisabet is a weirdo for having taken such a tattoo?

The others tell her not to worry about such things. But they also advise her maybe she shouldn't tell the exchange housemate she thinks Michael is like Jesus to her.

16:41 The housemates have been practicing their presentations on "False Finland" once again during the day.

The time is up, though, so they have now moved on to their usual Sunday evening routine: getting prepared for the early evening talk show ("Big Brother Extra") which is on at 19:00 Finnish time and usually includes some live scenes from the house and, ultimately, the weekly eviction show ("Big Brother Talk Show") which goes live on air at 21:00 Finnish time.

The girls are doing each others' hair in the bathroom, applying makeup, choosing clothes for the evening etc. Someone is vacuum-cleaning the living room. Petri is chilling out on the sofa.
