IBB kirjoitti:Exclusive interview: BB9’s Luke
We chat to Luke from Big Brother 9!
Inside Big Brother’s only gone and got you an exclusive interview with one of the best housemates from last year, Luke Marsden.
We caught up with Luke from Big Brother 9 to ask him a few questions about many things, including the BB experience and what he thinks about the ratings. Oh yes, we’ve even asked him about the axing of the live feed.
So, here it is:
Since being on Big Brother, you and Rebecca from BB9 have been on all sorts of magazines and the press were really interested in your relationship. Are you still together now?
“Yeah we are still together now, a lot of people thought it was a scam to get the aforementioned mag deals but I can honestly say that we are still going strong nearly ten months later. So if I swore I would be sticking the finger up to the non-believers now.”
What made you want to go on Big Brother, and what was the audition process like? Do you really have to do all sorts of weird tasks like everybody says?
“I applied for it because I had never auditioned for anything in my life and was free on the day so I thought why not? The audition process was so intense and I never thought it would have lasted 6 months; you get a real insight into how much of a massive production Big Brother actually is. A lot of the public think people just walk straight into the BB house when it’s not the case at all it’s very hard and you have to be very lucky to get in there. And yeah I had to actually eat tripe because my group during the audition stage failed a fancy dress task, disgusting!”
Do you think the show is edited fairly? Some people criticise it claiming the producers turn housemates into characters they’re not.
“I’ve heard a lot of ex-housemates complain about how they have been edited but my view before going in the BB house was if I don’t say it they can’t show it. I’ve watched episodes of my time in the house back and think I was edited fairly and to be honest I could have been edited worse. I do think they made Jen seem harsher and nastier than she actually is, she was lovely to me in the house.”
What’s the hardest thing about living in the Big Brother house?
“The lack of food! I was physically starving a lot of times in the house and I can’t afford to lose any weight. The most nerve wracking part was when we all had to gather on the sofas and wait for “Big Brother House This Is Davina”.”
You were in one of the most controversial first few weeks of a series ever. How did you feel when the Alexandra arguments and the Dennis/Mohamed fight was happening around you?
“To be honest Alex was lovely to me in the house and I said I was a role model for her children (obviously because she wasn’t!) Big Brother did the right thing ejecting her. The Dennis/Mohammed thing was a very strange night all fuelled by alcohol. The simple fact is you can’t spit at someone on national TV and not expect repercussions.”
Are you happy that you were involved in a twist when you entered the house? It definitely got you a lot of coverage, but it also got you up for eviction.
“I loved the fact I was involved in the wedding task I feel privileged to have been chosen to do that. I would have been gutted and angry to have been evicted in the first week but I wasn’t so it all worked out very well.”
What was your favourite moment on Big Brother?
“I have a few favourite moments one of them being when Mikey and I had to work together and memorise “An Elephants Child” and recite it in the Diary Room I had such fun working with Mikey on that task. I also enjoyed my eviction it was a phenomenal feeling.”
Were there any housemates in Big Brother 9 you really didn’t like, or are you the type of guy to make an effort with everybody?
“I couldn’t stand Mohammed when I was in the house I really loathed him, I also wasn’t a big Rachel and Kat fan. Could you tell I didn’t make an effort?”
What would you say to housemates going into Big Brother 10 who are there purely for the fame? Is there really a short shelf life like they say?
“My advice would be to milk it for everything it’s worth because some people get less than there 15 mins of fame and others have longer but you never know, the media industry is very fickle and you have to take what comes your way. If you are going in purely for the fame don’t expect a lot, if anything at all.”
Now the big issue: ratings. Big Brother’s viewing figures have been decreasing bit by bit since the race row on Celebrity Big Brother 2007. What do you think about the figures?
“I’ve been told that BB9 was the lowest viewed BB ever which saddens me because I think (being un-biased of course!) it was one of the best series, but like anything else after time people lose interest, it has happened on other shows such as American Idol and inevitably will happen to Britain’s Got Talent, The X Factor etc. A decade of entertaining the nation has been enough.”
You are a team member on ‘Big Brother’s Big Quiz’, aren’t you? That airs tonight on E4. Can you tell us any good bits to look forward to?
“Yeah I get to team with Ulrika Jonsson which was amazing for me because I grew up watching her and she is an icon. It was great to film and I didn’t actually know that much about BB so it was educational for me. Look out for Ulrikia trying it on with me (honestly that happens….sort of!)”
Channel 4 recently confirmed that they’re axing the live feed for BB10 and stripping Big Mouth down to one night a week. What do you think of the changes?
“I think it’s a good idea because hopefully it will drive more ratings towards the highlight shows and Davina is a perfect choice for BBBM host she is brilliant!”
And finally, will you be watching Big Brother 10?
“I have to, I have a column in Star Magazine every week and will have a lot of BBLB appearances coming up so I should at least know the housemates names haha!”
We hope you enjoyed that, and we’ll hopefully be getting you more interviews as time goes on! Also, thanks to Luke for doing the interview, and catch him on Twitter here.
