C4, Applause Store confirm June launch

11:53 UPDATE: Channel 4 updated their press site yesterday, confirming the long-reported June start for the upcoming season.

After weeks of speculation, we can now say near-certainly that BB9 will be beginning in June, just as the tabloids reported.

The site has updated its June listings to include Big Brother, and here’s what it says:

It’s summer - which can mean only one thing. Big Brother is back for a ninth series. After Davina McCall announces the arrival of the new residents, and the doors close, Big Brother takes control 24/7, cutting all contact from the outside world in the most famous reality show.

The new housemates will not only be at Big Brother’s mercy, but each other’s, as they complete tasks, bitch, backstab and try to get on, winning friends and enemies along the way.

But the power to decide who stays and who goes sits firmly with those at home. While the unexpected becomes the norm, there’s one factor that remains the same and that is eviction night. Who stays and who goes is down to the viewer.

E4 will continue to be the home to Big Brother’s Little Brother, Big Brother’s Big Mouth and Diary Room Uncut as well as being the place to catch the live streaming and all the day-to-day drama. While online, fans can keep up-to-date with breaking news and sneaky peeks at the latest footage from inside the house.

So from this we know several things: firstly, the format will not change - it’ll be the same, classic viewer-oriented show; secondly, it will launch in June, as various insiders and tabloids have suggested; and thirdly, BBLB and BBBM will both be on E4 this year

Looking at this in more detail, the fact that BBBM will be on E4 does suggest a more fixed 10pm weeknight slot will feature this series, which should please most fans. BBBM is likely to take less of a prominent role with the lack of a household name, airing at around 11pm after the highlights. Guest presenters, which are most likely, didn’t really set the world alight in BB8, so this makes sense.

Also, BBLB is staying on E4. Again, this was inevitable, due to the Channel 4 daytime schedule not really having much space for the show. Many fans enjoyed it at 6pm nightly on Channel 4, but its 7.30pm slot has been its most common home so it’s no surprise to predict it retaining this slot for BB9.

Finally, it’s expected the exact start date (either the first Thursday or Friday in June) will be announced midway through this month, coinciding with a press release and (hopefully) the long-awaited eye!

Hopefully at this time we will learn the answers to some questions like those surrounding the future of text voting on the show after it was axed for BB8 following the fraud scams, as well as the annual red button live streaming queries and also the future of other things such as Big Brother’s Big Brain and Big Brother: On The Couch (yeah, remember them?)

Davina McCall quits Big Brother?

According to The News Of The World, Davina McCall has decided to quit Big Brother to pursue a career in acting.

We’re sure you don’t need reminding, but this rumour crops up every year and while it’s possible it could be true, it’s still unlikely and we’d recommend waiting until an official source confirms or denies it.

Davina, who is now 40, has presented all eight series of Big Brother and all five series of Celebrity Big Brother. However, The News of The World is reporting that she has made a decision to quit the show.

Davina has recently changed management. Her new manager, Michael Foster is the manager of Billie Piper.

According to the article Davina is going to have a serious acting role in major TV drama. Here is a quote from a source “close to Davina”:

“She has finally realised the time is right to move on. After doing so many series of Big Brother, she’s become seriously bored. She’s very excited and convinced that Michael can turn her into a serious actor.”

The article also reports that Channel 4 bosses think that the best of Davina’s presenting career is over and that they are refusing to give her any work outside of Big Brother.

Apparently, Davina’s been in talks with a lot of different people for months and the industry has been prepared for her leaving Big Brother. Recently she left her agent, John Noel. Why? No one really knows. And where’s she moved? To the agent of Billie Piper. Make of that what you will!

Suprisingly, the paper hasn’t reported that it has been confirmed that Davina will present Big Brother 9 which begins on June 5th on Channel 4. The also quotes a “Channel 4 insider” who says it’s “very unlikely she’ll be back”.

Davina: 'BB9 will be toughest yet'

Davina McCall has warned that housemates will suffer on this year's Big Brother.

The presenter said the ninth series of the show, which launches on June 5, will be the toughest yet for the contestants.

She told the Press Association: "Big Brother is no longer going to be lenient in any way, shape or form. If there's any kind of rule breaking, they're going to come down on them like a ton of bricks.

"You're not just going to be able to saunter into the Diary Room and go: 'Hi yeah, can I just get some gas for my curling tongs?' No, no, no, no - they're basically gonna make housemates suffer a bit more, which will be a good thing, I think."

She added: "We've been a bit soft the last couple of years. This is not a holiday camp, you know. This is an entertainment programme and we need a winner."

McCall recently denied rumours that she is quitting Big Brother after the next series.

Every loser wins

Everybody’s favourite reliable Big Brother rumour-mill has a new story about a possible gambling task with an evil twist.

Housemates will be be led to believe they have to hit the jackpot to win booze and treats on a Las Vegas style fruit machine. But in an evil BB twist, contestants must lose to take the prizes - but they won’t know about the twist.

It is the housemates who think they’ve won who will actually lose and could be starved for up to a week, according to The Daily Star.

Executive producer Phil Edgar Jones, 40, admits BB will get nasty. He teased: “The series will be funny but evil. We’re getting tougher on wannabes and on the causes of wannabes.”

A talkative show insider has seen the fruit machine’s trial run, confided: “This one is being nicknamed Every Loser Wins. One by one, the contestants must play the machine. The ones who lose get treats.”

Meanwhile, in other news, speculation still surrounds Davina McCall’s Big Brother future today. Despite insisting that she will continue to host Big Brother after the current series, the Daily Mail claims that she wishes to change her current image and start presenting factual programmes about “real issues”.

Big Brother is successful, but nothing else which she has tried seems to have worked,” a source explained. “She wants to make some more money because she does worry about her future.

“The time is coming when she will have to stop doing Big Brother - it’s been nearly ten years - and she really needs to find something else. The focus is now on finding her a renewable hit.”

Earlier this month, Davina reportedly sacked her agent John Noel, in order to start up a new career as a serious actress. McCall’s connections with Noel caused controversy during the Celebrity Big Brother 5 race row. Davina was accused of giving Jade Goody an easy ride during her eviction interview because the reality TV star was also represented by John at the time.

One source revealed: “I’m afraid that she really blames John for the bad press she got about her chat-show and for the Jade Goody problems, too.”

Blind contestant in lineup?

According to a report today in The People, producers have “recruited” a blind housemate for this year’s series, and are expecting a backlash.

The house has been designed in an accessible way. Bosses plan to do everything in their power to make sure the person’s stay is comfortable and enjoyable.

An insider said: “After the racism issues with Jade Goody and Emily Parr they will go out of their way to avoid accusations that having a blind housemate is in any way wrong.”

The move has been backed by an RNIB spokesperson: “I think having somebody blind or partially sighted on Big Brother could be really positive in terms of changing people’s attitudes to blindness.”

Bosses will strongly deny any accusations of exploitation when accused. The source added: ”BB is ready to take a blind person into the house. Everything possible has been done to make sure the person settles in and is not sidelined.

“The house has been designed in an accessible way. Bosses plan to do everything in their power to make sure the person’s stay is comfortable and enjoyable.”

In other news, Davina has (yet again) denied she is quitting the show. She said to the News of the World: ”I’ll never leave it. I love it. Next year is the 10th anniversary of the show, and there’s no way I’m not going to be part of that. The only way I’d leave Big Brother is if they fired me. I’m so proud to be part of something I love.”

Girls Aloud reject for Big Brother 9?


The News of The World are claiming that one of the housemates this year will be Girls Aloud reject, Stephanie McMichael.

Reminder: News stories covered in this article may not be reliable, the final line-up of housemates may have not been chosen yet!

Stephanie appeared on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 alongside many hopefuls including Cheryl Cole, who wanted to be a member of UK girl group, Girls Aloud.

However, one rule of the show was that the contestants had to be aged 16 or over, Stephanie was only 13 year’s-old at the time and therefore was disqualified from the show. Thousands of viewers watched as she sobbed to host, Davina McCall after being kicked off.

Now 19-years old, she’ll be one of sixteen to enter the house on Thursday, a Big Brother source told The News of The World: “She’s sassy and will make a brilliant housemate.”

The newspaper is also reporting that this year’s garden will feature a prison for rule breaker’s. After last year’s light hearted Big Brother, he’s going for a zero tolerance policy this year. Big Brother 9 producer, Sharon Powers said: “The house and garden are bigger than ever before but that doesn’t mean it’s a nice place to live. If the housemates break the rules they’ll be sent to jail.”

Big Brother 9 starts on Channel 4 this Thursday at 9pm.

The Daily Star have printed an image of a grim looking prison where naughty housemates can expect to be banished to for wrongdoing.

The paper has reported housemates will have to choose law and order or face the consequences. Rule breakers will be punished under a regime which will leave them in a jail that has been installed in the garden.

Here is the jail itself:



Housemates who rule break can expect to be locked up in the jail. Those who discuss nominations will end up in the prison, painted with pictures of dolls’ heads, overnight. In recent series, nomination discussion rule breaks have resulted in twists to the nomination process often criticised by fans.

A source said: “Big Brother has been cruel before but nothing like this. Viewers can expect housemates to be locked away while their friends are plied with treats.”

The paper also reports there are two other secret rooms.

Sharon Powers said: “The house and garden are bigger than ever before but that doesn’t mean the house will be a nice place to live.”

Apparently there will be lots of fun but a zero-tolerance approach to rule breakers.

Monday rumours: Entries, Moyles and more

In a roundup of various reports today, we learn of nine strikes, more about the rumoured blind housemate, and that Chris Moyles is to enter the house today.

With just three days to go, The Sun reports Davina will escort the housemate - said to be a man - from his vehicle to the steps, where security guards will guide him to the house. Speaking of vehicles, apparently this year housemates will not arrive in limos but in black vans.

“They like to think they’re all going to be big stars and really enjoy the limo ride,” said a source. “This will bring them crashing back to earth.”

In other news, housemates are to be ruled by a Nine Lives policy, according to the Daily Star, which is part of the show’s Law and Order theme. Those who commit 9 rule breaks face “nomination or even eviction”

The Star’s source said: “Everyone is sick and tired of seeing housemates break rules and not being punished. This will make sure they are.”

Also today, it has transpired that Alan Carr was not best pleased at having to present the Launch Night Project. He said: “I had 15 ex-Big Brother housemates on the show. Oh my lord… Ziggy can’t be in the same room as Chanelle. Chanelle can’t be with Lea. And Lea can’t be with Nadia.”

Carr continued: “We had Mariah Carey on the week before. Good as gold! I had to miss a Bruce Springsteen concert to film it. I would have loved to have been at that instead of interviewing Charley about her career. Obviously I don’t want to socialise with these people.”

And finally, Chris Moyles and his team from BBC’s Radio 1 are entering the house today along with Davina. Don’t forget Davina will be on The Paul O’Grady Show tonight, too!

IN PICTURES: The BB9 jail

Official pictures of the jail that has been installed in the garden to punish wrongdoers are in the wild. Read on to see the snaps!

The jail was snapped in various tabloids the other day and reported as part of the new war and order theme that punishes offenders.

Those who insist on discussing nominations and breaking other rules can expect to spend time in the jail, which is small and unfortunately decorated with images of dolls’ heads.

New details ‘ratted’ out

The Daily Star have revealed that bosses at Big Brother have been plagued by rats just two days before the show goes on air.

According to the latest rumour from the rag, the rodents got into the house and caused ‘havoc’. The bosses put it down to the cameramen who left food on the floor at studio complex. The rats gnawed their way into the complex and ‘ran riot.’ (Blimey - The Daily Star can big up anything, can’t they?)

According to the paper, workman who turned up at the BB house yesterday morning to put the finishing touches to the house found rats swarming all over the garden and inside the camera runs.

According the paper, C4 chiefs hit the roof and had to call in local pest control officers to get rid of the rats. Last night a show spokesman said: “There was a problem. But it has now been well and truly sorted out.”
