Aivan loistava tunnelma finaalissa kaikista vaikeuksista huolimatta, suuren urheilujuhlan tuntua!

The Age kirjoitti: Big Brother facing the axe

Big Brother may not return to television screens next year, as television executives and producers remain in negotiations over the show's future.

During this year's finale show, host Gretel Killeen said the show had been confirmed to reappear on Network Ten in 2008.

But less than two months later that claim looks increasingly uncertain.

During a time that should be occupied with plans for the next season, the show has yet to be confirmed by Network Ten as part of the 2008 line-up.

At least one high profile cast member, involved in pivotal roles on the program in the past, was understood to be considering other projects for next year.

Another was said to have told friends that a return to the show was not on the cards.

It is understood that negotiations between Network Ten and production house Endemol Southern Star are still underway. No decision has been made yet.

Network Ten declined to make an official statement on the show's future.

Courier Mail kirjoitti:
Big Brother producer Kris Noble has shot down rumours that the axe is hovering over the reality show and insists Channel 10 is close to agreeing to terms for an eighth season.

The managing director of production company Endemol Southern Star described the reality show as a ``staple diet'' for Ten and called rumours of its demise ``a load of crap''.

He also denied reports that the show is set to move out of its base at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast to relocate to studios in Sydney.

The 2007 series of Big Brother was a lukewarm performer in the ratings for Ten and Noble said the format would be refreshed before auditions for the 2008 version.

Daily Telegraph kirjoitti: Big Brother's 'Donkey Boy' dies

Big Brother contestant Gordon Sloan has died in China after a suspected drug overdose.

The 2001 contestant, known as "Flash Gordon" and "Donkey Boy" in the house, collapsed in mysterious circumstances 12 days ago, the Ninemsn site has reported.

The 34-year-old from the original series of the reality show died at 1pm (AEST) yesterday at a city hospital.

Reports have said that the architect was admitted to hospital on September 1 and was in a coma when he died.

There are suspicions that Sloan might have taken an overdose or been deliberately drugged by another person.

Mr Sloan's parents, brother and sister, who had travelled to Beijing from their native New Zealand, could not be contacted this afternoon for comment on the drug claims.

Donna Mulhearn, a friend of the 34-year-old New Zealand-born Australian, told AAP the Beijing hospital turned off Mr Sloan's life support yesterday.

Ms Mulhearn said she would not speculate on the cause of her friend's death, including rumours it was drug related.

She worked with Mr Sloan as a human shield in Baghdad for several months in 2003 and the pair set up a shelter for homeless children in the Iraq capital.

"I was absolutely shocked to hear about his death but not surprised it was overseas while he was travelling. I read the email from his mate and was stunned,'' Ms Mulhearn said.

"I thought he was invincible. He was so big and strong. Big in so many ways too, physically, personality and his heart.

"He was fearless and I thought nothing would get him.''

Mr Sloan worked as an architect before appearing on the first series of the reality television show Big Brother in 2001.

A service will be held in Randwick, in Sydney's east, next week when his body returns to Australia from China, Ms Mulhearn said.

"He was a hero. He was dedicated to 20 Iraqi street kids and risked his life to document and film life in Baghdad. His detractors, because of Big Brother, just didn't know him,'' she said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs have confirmed a New Zealand-born Australian citizen from Victoria died in Beijing yesterday.

The consulate in Beijing was providing support for the family, a department spokesperson said.

Ben Williams won the 2001 season best remembered for contestant Sara-Marie Fedele's "bum dance".

One year after his appearance on Big Brother, Mr Sloan gave up his job in Sydney to join a "human shield" protest in Baghdad.

Sloan also told a Big Brother fan site he did not consider himself famous.

"Fame is a word given to people who've overachieved through natural talent and hard work, and gained the respect and admiration of firstly their peer group, then the world," he said.

Daily Telegraph kirjoitti: Seven's $40m Big Brother offer

CHANNEL 10's Big Brother series is on the verge of finding a new home at Channel 7, with both networks negotiating with production company Endemol Southern Star for the franchise.

Bidding for the eighth series of the landmark reality show is believed to have hit more than $40 million yesterday, with Ten desperate to secure the rights to its flagship winter program as Seven flashed the big bucks, reports media writer Fiona Connolly.

"We're interested in Big Brother. We're into building our programming and enhancing our leadership in primetime," a Seven spokesman said yesterday.

"And we have some terrific plans for re-energising the Big Brother franchise."

Rumours out of Seven yesterday suggested the Nine network had also put in a "monstrous bid" as much as $43 million but Nine denied having any interest at all.

"We are not interested in pursuing the Big Brother franchise," a spokeswoman said. Sources from both Nine and Ten yesterday accused Seven of having no real interest in the franchise but were feigning interest to push the price up to create a hole in Ten's budget.

"We're not forcing anyone into a bidding war - let alone ourselves," the Seven spokesman responded.

He added: "We, along with Nine and Ten, will bid."

An industry source said yesterday: "It's pretty classic. One network starts a rumour and suddenly the price is up $10 million and Ten have no money left for local programming. Poor old Ten are just sitting ducks in all of this."

As Ten programmer David Mott was said to have "rushed" to Endemol Southern Star to reopen talks yesterday, a network spokeswoman confirmed Ten had not yet stitched up a further series.

The relationship between Ten and Southern Star soured last year after Ten bowed to Government pressure and pulled the raunchier BB Uncut and BB Adults Only shows.

If Seven should takeover the franchise it would mean a change of host for the show as Gretel Killeen (pictured) is contracted to Ten, not Southern Star.

Omalla kohdalla suurin koukuttaja on englantia puhuvien murteet. Aussien Ocker ja brittien Scouse harjaannuttaa paremmatkin korvat.

Australiassa on valoisaa ja aurinkoista ympäri vuoden jopa meidän kesän aikaan. Valoisuus saattaa olla studio-trikki, joka kuitenkin toimii.

It's time to go... Kris Noble!

It has been confirmed that Kris Noble has resigned from his position of Managing Director of Endemol Southern Star, ending his four year reign as executive producer of Big Brother.

Noble though will remain with Endemol as a consultant to the drama development and production unit.

Kris Noble's replacement as Managing Director is Rory Callaghan, with him taking overall responsibility for all of ESS output, but retaining his production role in the companies drama and factual department - and therefore possibly having less involvement with Big Brother than his predecessor.

It is still unclear whether Tim Toni, Noble's partner in the crime that was BB7, will remain in the role next year.

By sheer coincidence I'm sure, Kris Noble's counterpart in the UK has also announced his resignation today. Peter Bazalgette has resigned from his position as chairman of Endemol UK and chief creative officer at Endemol International after ten years with the company, during which time he is best known for bringing Big Brother to the UK - and regularly defending the concept.

The Hollywood Reporter kirjoitti: Endemol Southern Star ups Callaghan

SYDNEY -- Australian format firm Endemol Southern Star has promoted Rory Callaghan to managing director following the resignation of Kris Noble, the company said Thursday.

Formerly managing director of Granada Productions Australia, Callaghan has been with Southern Star for 18 months.

ESS, a joint venture of Endemol and Australian independent production and distribution company the Southern Star Group, produced "Big Brother," 'Deal or No Deal," "1 v 100" and, as of next year, a revival of the "Gladiators" franchise here.

Callaghan is assuming overall responsibility for all of the production activities of Endemol Southern Star as well as retaining his production role at Southern Star's factual and drama division, Southern Star Entertainment.

Noble, a 37-year veteran of the Australian TV industry and the executive producer of "Big Brother" for four years, said his stepping aside was a "lifestyle decision" but that he will remain with Southern Star as a consultant working on the company's drama development and production.

Callaghan's appointment comes as ESS and "Big Brother" broadcaster Network Ten negotiate terms for an eighth season of the reality show next year.

Said Southern Star CEO Hugh Marks: "We all support Kris in his decision to step back and wish him well in the next evolution of his career with us here at Southern Star. I'm thrilled it's not the end, just a new beginning".

"Rory's passion, energy and creativity make him one of the best executives in the television business and I look forward to many more successful years working together," he added.
